The usual way that these forces are used in a deformable model is that each one tries to correct for one unique case, you then have the definition of external forces changed so that it accommodates all these unique forces, Balloon force is one of these forces, it essentially expands your original model until it gets close to the boundaries of the object you are segmenting (hence Balloon), you then turn this force off or make it very small and use another external force (i.,e gradient) to search for boundaries, and that's what Kappa parameter does for you (as Thomas said in his brief explanation), controls how big or small your balloon force is gonna be,
Having said that I have heard reports from Sebastian that the normals are flipped and somethings are wrong with the way these classes function. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to test any of the code but to my knowledge not much has changed since these classes were written long ago when ITK came to life. last I used these class was with ITK-3.20 when I had multi-mouse embryo segmentation in MR images (64 to be exact) and things were working perfectly!
Subject: [Insight-users] DeformableSimplexMesh3DBalloonForceFilter example

Hi all,

Does anyone have example of DeformableSimplexMesh3DBalloonForceFilter. The documentation is not very clear in the doxygen, I have no clue on how to use this filter.

Any help or reference is appreciated.

Thanks
