Hi Hiliwi,
The following Insight Journal article on creating colormapped images should
be helpful:

To combine the images, one option is the ComposeImageFilter:
http://www.itk.org/Doxygen/html/classitk_1_1ComposeImageFilter.html
as demonstrated here:
