I boldly (rashly?) did this:

    itk::ImportImageContainer< itk::SizeValueType,  short>::Pointer PixelContainerShort; 

and it compiles.  Is this OK?

Your second suggestion fixed two occurrences :)
The next error is in vtkITKTimeSeriesDatabase.cxx(66):

    itk::ImportImageContainer<unsigned long, OutputImagePixelType>::Pointer PixelContainerShort;
    PixelContainerShort = this->m_Filter->GetOutput()->GetPixelContainer();

to

  image2##typeN::PixelContainer

or at least

   itk::ImportImageContainer< itk::SizeValueType, type >::Pointer

fix the issue?
