No, you should not have to change the CMakeLists.txt file.
What version of VTK/CMake were you using?   There was a bug
in the CMakeLists.txt files for VTK that caused the library depend
information not to be correctly transferred by the UseVTK file.

You can check, if your VTK build directory does not have the file
VTKLibraryDepends.cmake, then you have the problem.   

It all really depends on what version of VTK you are using.
It was broken in CVS for a day or two.
