Sorry, slippery finger.  As I was saying:

... doesn't multiply by -1, so it is a maximize function.  Either one works, but one of the two should be changed

(2)  For the pattern intensity, the documentation refers to a lamba parameter which is not in the code (as far as I can tell).  Should it be?
