Just FYI (and to prevent any possible misconceptions on this list),
all of these features are available via the tex -> dvi -> ps -> pdf
path as well, you just have to use the right packages.  The advantages
of this path over pdflatex, is that you don't have to do any figure
conversion, you can use EPS and jpeg embedded into EPS (for bitmaps)
consistently and this works for generating PS or PDF.
