Hi Bill,
 
You have good points - there are many reasons not to add it.
 
But I was wondering if others are in favor of it.  If mine is the lone
voice, then I'm happy to keep it as a MetaIO thing.

Stephen,

I just checked the LOC-load of the two libraries:
expat - ~11,000 LOC
xml2 - ~210,000 LOC

Is the xml2 LOC-load worth it in itk and slicer?
