[Insight-users] Build problem: vcl_config_*.h not found

I have problem building ITK. Compilation of
Code/Numerics/itkCacheableScalarFunction.cxx exits with long list of
errors, starting with

Tried various CVS versions from very recent back to version 1.0 with
similar problems. Tried completely fresh CVS checkuots and builds in an
empty directory using only default ITK options. Same problem. This happens
on RedHat Linux 8.0 and CMake 1.6.2.

I would appreciate any hint how to resolve this issue.
