[Insight-users] topology preserving level sets

Has anyone looked at integrating something like the following with the 
ITK level set framework:

"A Topology Preserving Level Set Method for Deformable Models", Han, Xu 
and Prince, IEEE PAMI 2003

I would also be interested to hear about other ways of doing this.  When 
segmenting anatomical objects, one most often has a priori information 
about the expected number and topology of the resultant segmented 
objects, so I expect that being able to constrain the topology of a 
level set could be useful.
