Hi Zhao,

you can use itk::ExtractImageFilter to obtain an axis aligned image. With 
this filter, you can even have an output image with reduced dimensionality 
e.g. for extracting slices from 3D images or volumes at certain timepoints 
for 4D.

If you need oblique areas, you should give itk::ResampleImageFilter a try. 
It's documented in the itk software guide, section 5.7.1

I'd suggest that you upgrade to the latest official release (1.6.0). You 
will find that it has fewer bugs in the classes that you know and lots of 
new functionality (with shiny new bugs which are hunted down each day by 
the brave developers =) )
