for vtk, just use the ones of the your mandriva release. The vtk package  
is still a work in progress in the current cooker

   urpme `rpm -qa | grep vtk`
   urpmi vtk-devel

Let me know if you have other problems with those packages

i didn't find any vtk package in the curent Linux version(Mandriva 2006)
 i do what u tell me above,
 

 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]# urpme `rpm -qa | grep vtk`
 désinstallation de libvtk-5.0.0-0.20051206.6mdk.i586
 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]#    urpmi vtk-devel
 pas de paquetage nommé vtk-devel
 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]#    urpmi vtk-devel*
 pas de paquetage nommé vtk-devel*
 [root at timhpux itk vtk mandriva rpms]#    urpmi libvtk-devel*
 Certains paquetages demandés ne peuvent pas être installés :
 libvtk-devel-5.0.0-0.20051206.6mdk.i586 (car devel(libtiff) est non satisfait)
 Continuer ? (O/n)

 I didn't know where is the problem, may be i should install it normaly (  by extracting the latest VTK release and compile and build it...)
