[Insight-users] Shrink image using mean of pixel values

Hello Everyone,

I would like to shrink an image so that the intensity values of the
output image is the mean value of the corresponding input pixels,
similar to what is possible with vtkImageShrink3D.
The ITK ShrinkImageFilter only does simple subsampling of the input
image. An older post suggested using two filters to perform the same
operation:

Is this the best way of getting this result, or would is there another
filter that could be used, or should I consider modifying the
ShrinkImageFilter?
