Hi Darren,
ITK does *NOT* depends on imview.
or any other viewer applications.
The WrapITK system provides a convenience method for calling
imview from the wrapped layer, to make easy for you to look
at images.
Note however that this is done by saving the image as a TIFF
file first.
You could therefore use any other viewer tool for looking
at your images. You could use "display" from ImageMagik,
or "eog" Eye of Genome... or the ImageViewer applications
that is distributed with InsightApplications.
imview is not particularly suited for medical images, and
I would discourage you from using it for any clinical
application. For example, it doesn't take image spacing
into account, and will have not support for managing
image orientations.
ITK focuses on image analysis, and doesn't provide any
visualization capabilities, nor GUI capabilities.
In summary:
You *do not* need imview in order to use ITK.
Regards,
Luis
