Kevin,
Thank you very much for pointing out the examples.
I cleaned up my dicom folder to make sure that only one series in one directory.
Thus, I won't get self into the trouble to sort out the series.
But I am sure there will be a way to by-pass the scout.

I've only tried the DICOM reader once and I and the DICOM reader got
very confused by two related images the were in the same directory.
I found the example ITK/Examples/IO/DicomSeriesReadPrintTags.cxx very
helpful. There should be a tag that is different between the scout and
the real volume.
As I recall, there's also a comment in one of the DicomSeriesRead*.cxx
files in the same example directory that says how to tell the reader to
distinguish the scout and the volume.
