Subject: Call for papers - 8th International Seminar on Medical Information
Processing and Analysis SIPAIM 2012
To: bioven at unet.edu.ve

The 8th International Seminar on Medical Information Processing
and Analysis (formerly International Seminar on Medical Image Processing
and Analysis) will be held November 12-15, 2012, in the city of San
Cristóbal (Venezuela). As in previous editions, this seminar is the
appropriate space to bring together researchers (both students and
professionals-mainly related to Applied Research in Medicine) to
communicate their results, developments and research experience and to
promote the creation of technical and scientific collaboration networks.
Previous editions of this event were focused on the field of Medical Images
and associated technologies and applications. Since year 2011, as a
response to the increasing relevance of multi-modal sources in medical
applications, we have extended the Seminar scope to research areas
involving Biomedical Signals, Healthcare Informatics and Telemedicine, in
addition to the original topic related to Medical Image processing,
Analysis and Interpretation.

This event is addressed to researchers, professors, students and
professionals in a wide range of disciplines including Engineering,
Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology and Health Sciences. The
seminar will include expert lectures of issues related to acquisition,
digitization, visualization, processing, analysis and Interpretation of
Medical Information (biomedical signals, clinical data, diagnostic images,
etc.). Contributions accepted by the seminar's Evaluation Committee will be
presented in oral or poster sessions. In addition, several tutorials
related to the topic of the seminar will be offered to the attendants.

All accepted papers will be published in the proceedings, under an
ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. Topics submitted papers
closely related to Medical Information topics will be considered for
presentation.

The topic areas are expanded below but the sub-topics list is not
exhaustive. Papers may address one or more of the listed sub-topics,
although authors should not feel limited by them. Unlisted but related
sub-topics are also acceptable, provided they fit in one of the following
main topic areas:

1. Brain Imaging: - Acquisition - Multimodal Information Processing and
Analysis - Visualization and Interaction - Computer-Aided Detection and
Diagnosis - Quantitative Analysis and Interpretation - Multiscale /
Multiresolution Representations - Registration of Multimodal Medical Data

2. Imaging for Cancer Therapy: - Visualization and Interaction -
Quantitative Analysis and Interpretation- Registration of Multimodal
Medical Data – Segmentation – Statistical and Computational Model

3. e-Health: - Telemedicine - Healthcare Information Systems (Multimodal
Information Management) - Storage, Transmission and Access to Medical
Information - Medical Devices, Monitoring and Calibration – Clinical
Applications and Technology Integration - Medical Information Retrieval

4. Machine Learning/ Pattern Recognition for Biomedical Application: -
Classification - Color and Texture Analyses - Image-based Modeling and 3D
Reconstruction - Object detection and Localization - Image Enhancement
and Restoration - Machine Learning Technologies for Vision - Tracking and
Visual Navigation

5. Biosignals: Medical Signal Acquisition, Analysis and Processing -
Real-Time Systems - Fuzzy Systems and Signals – Physiological Processes and
Bio-signal Modeling, Non-linear dynamics - Signal Representation

6. Biosignal and Bioimage: - Sparse Representation - Signal/Image
Generation and Reconstruction - Compressive Sensing - Segmentation and
Grouping – Dictionary Learning - Signal/Image Analysis and Interpretation

7. Digital Patology: - Quantitative Analysis and Interpretation – Pattern
Recognition and Perception - Models for Detection and Discrimination –
Acquisition – Virtual Microscopy
