[ITK-users] make: path to ITK build unknown

Hi everybody,

when building an ITK project I have the following problem:
when I use the command 

cmake  ../<name of source code directory>
to generate a makefile and then afterwards use the make command to compile I
get:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
fatal error: itkBinaryThresholdImageFilter.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make[2]: ***
[CMakeFiles/BinaryThresholdImageFilter.dir/BinaryThresholdImageFilter.o]
Error 1
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/BinaryThresholdImageFilter.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to make it work I have to do it this way:
cmake -DITK_DIR=/path/to/ITK_build ../<name of source code directory>


Now, what do I have to do, so the path to ITK build is always known and I
don't have to enter it every time I want to build / compile source code I am
working on???
