float to unsigned short

Hello All

I have a structuredpoint data in a file .. it of type float. i am trying
to do volume rendering on it. But the vtkVolume*Mapper complains that it
requires of format unsigned char or unsigned short

Can someone kindly let me know how to convert my data. ?
