[vtkusers] vol rendering binary data

Has anyone successfully (in terms of aesthetics) volume rendered binary 3D
image data? I am trying to produce a 'pleasing' rendering of trabecular bone
structure from resampled and thresholded MRI data.  The output of the
threshold is set to 1 for bone & 0 for everything else.  I am currently
using 2D texture mapping but the results have a 'blocky' appearance.
