[vtkusers] Running vtk from a X terminal

You need the GLX to be supported on the client.  I don't know anything about the 
X Terminal you are using to see if GLX can be added to it.  You can do an 
"xdpyinfo" from the command line to see what extensions your client supports.

This parameter only applies if you use the console I think.
