[vtkusers] control height of linear extrusion

If I have a set of closed 2d lines and I want to extrude them with 
vtkLinearExtrusionFilter, is there some way I can control the height so 
that it is variable based on a scalar(or vector) ?   I have looked at the 
filters properties but I can't seem to find a way to do this.  I only saw 
a post on coloring cells based on a scalar, but nothing on controlling the 
height.  Also, with capping on, a cap isn't generated, is this the 
expected behavior since they are 2d lines?  Thanks.
