Why do most of  the examples(interested in tcl) , like the medical examples, on the vtk cd(the one purchased with the kitware books) and in the ubuntu/debian repositoories (same ones) not work?

The cone examples seem to work perfectly. 

Do I need any special libraries and if so where can I get them from?
