[vtkusers] Help:How to compile c++ programme written with vtk?

Hi!
    I am a new learner. When I try to compile a c++ programme with gcc,
it complains that libs not found. I try to use `pkg-config --libs vtk`
just like what we do when compiling gtk programmes. Of course it doesn't
work.  The document I found suggests me use cmake, but I am not familiar
with it.  What should I do? Is there an easy way to compile the programme?
