This code snippet is adapted from ParaView, where the method is used:

...
  vtkXYPlotActor *xy = anXYPlotActor;
  ofstream f;
  f.open( "SomeFileName.txt" );
  if (!f.good())
    {
    vtkErrorMacro("XYPlot save file open did not succeed.");
    }
  else
    {
    xy->PrintAsCSV(f);
    f.close();
    }
...
