[vtkusers] CVS ia64 dicom_stl syntax error

I'm compiling the CVS release on ia64 but am getting this error..

yaddayadda/DICOMFile.h:50: syntax 
   error before `&' token

The line it's complaining about is this...

  bool Open(const dicom_stl::string& filename);

Maybe it doesn't like dicom_stl. I'm sure this is simple, can anyone see what
I've missed.
