For what it's worth, the image on that site & the data coming off BG/L are 
being visualized with VisIt (http://www.llnl.gov/visit), which is the 
dominant vis tool at LLNL.  Of course, VisIt is powered by VTK, so your 
comment about "power to kitware" is still equally accurate.
