[vtkusers] Extract the image volume

Hi all vtk users.
I hope i can explain well the situation.
In fact, i make the reconstruction of a 3D skull volume from a sequence of 2D segmented images.
When i try to manipulate the volume (by generating its surface for example) i have as result the surface of the whole volume including the boards of the 2D images (i.e i can't access just to the skull volume but i have a cubic form!!!)
Is thers any way to extract the skull from the whole volume?
