[vtkusers] vtkLinearExtrusionFilter or vtkRuledSurfaceFilter ???

Hi all,

I need some informations about which tool to use to solve my problem :

I have a 3D polygon (vtkPolygon) and I would like to get the mesh linking
this polygon and its projection on the XY plane. (each z-coordinates of the
polygon points are >0)

I'm currently hesitating between vtkLinearExtrusionFilter and
vtkRuledSurfaceFilter. 
LinearExtrusion would be a simple solution but I want the extrusion to stop
on the plane. AFAIK there's no such option in this function.

On the other side, RuledSurface may be a solution but I don't understand how
to use it even when I read the example.

or May be there is another tool which might be the answer.

Any help/advice is appreciated.
