[vtkusers] How a momory could be allocated for more than 1Giga byte?

Dear vtk users,

My machine has actually 8Giga byte and I tried to allocate unsigned short
array as a size of 1,200,000,000. 

But it got an error. Is there any memory saving allocation or a method for
virtual memory?
