[vtkusers] How to get the light intensity at particular point of a 2D image

Dear all,

I have a 2D grey level image. I'd like to find out the light intensity of
particular point(or pixel). I saw some solutions use
vtkImageData::GetScalarPointer().

Can anyone confirm if it returns the light intensity? Or the return value
means something else?
