What is the difference between VtkPolyDataWriter and VtkXMLPolyDataWriter ?

Is one better ?

In my case I transform an mitk::image to a polydata with
 mitk::ImageToSurfaceFilter. And then I want to save the result to see if
the filter is working properly.
