[vtkusers] How to check for support of vtkHardwareSelector?

Hi all,
I'm wondering about a function to check for support of vtkHardwareSelector.

Is it hardware dependant? Do modern graphics cards support it?
Or do I misunderstand something totally and it has not too much to do with
hardware like the name vtk"Hardware"Selector implies?
