Ah, if ParaView is not involved, then we should have a bug in the VTK project, instead of in the ParaView project.  Feel like creating one?

Great.  Qt is a big chunk of code too, if it could be eliminated that would help.  Perhaps try one of the basic C++ VTK examples...
