    Just to share the fun of this task...   :-)


Looking for copyright notices, we get to the Fortran
(yes FORTRAN!) programs in


   src/Insight/Utilities/vxl/v3p/netlib/eispack/


        and look at the file "epslon.f"
        to find the following documentation:

c     satisfying the following two assumptions,
c        1.  the base used in representing floating point
c            numbers is not a power of three.

So... trivia question:


          Who ever used a power of three as a
          base for representing the base of
          floating point numbers ?
