Open Positions - Image Processing / Biomedical Imaging
We are looking for talented individuals in image processing/biomedical
imaging to form part of a dynamic team providing image processing
expertise and algorithm development for the Allen Brain Atlas project.
This project is the charter project of the newly formed Allen Institute
for Brain Science in Seattle, WA whose three year goal is to map the
expression of the entire mouse genome in the adult mouse brain using in
situ hybridization. This project will generate nearly 500 terabytes of
visible and fluorescent light image data and will be the first complete
expression map of any higher organism. Key imaging problems with this
effort include problems of 2D and 3D inter-modality registration,
quantitative estimation of expression profiles, and data QC/QA analysis
related to support accurate data collection and quality control. As
the project progresses the opportunities for data mining and
computational research are expected to be enormous.
The Allen Brain Atlas project has need for individuals with an
understanding of image processing and analysis, with experience
preferably in biomedical and/or neurobiological applications.
Experience in problems in the analysis of complex data is desirable.
Strong software development skills and experience in scientific
visualization or computer graphics useful.=20
Essential duties and responsibilities
* Participate as part of a team of informatics and image
processing scientists responsible for the analysis and development of
the Allen Brain Atlas.
* Consult in the construction of a high-throughput system for
analysis and processing of in situ hybridization image data.
* Primary focus is on development of registration, image
processing, signal detection analytic software tools and development of
a data analysis pipeline incorporating data fusion, metadata, and
visualization.=20
* Interdisciplinary role working with informatics and laboratory
scientists
Qualifications
* Ph.D. desired in computer science, engineering, physics, applied
mathematics, or statistics or M.A. with significant career experience.
* Significant software development experience in C/C++, Perl,
Java, and image processing software. Familiarity with ITK a plus.
* Experience working in a cross disciplinary environment in
academia or industry. Exceptional problem solving and decision making
skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
