The NIH Public Access policy

             http://publicaccess.nih.gov/

states that:

                   As of *April 7 2008*

*all articles* arising from NIH funds
*must* be submitted to PubMed Central
         upon *acceptance* for publication.

                    As of *May 25 2008*

         NIH applications, proposals, and progress
reports *must* include the PubMed Central
reference number when citing an article that
falls under the policy and is authored or
co-authored by the investigator, or arose
from the investigator’s NIH award. This policy
includes applications submitted to the NIH for
the May 25, 2008 due date and subsequent due dates.

Also, remember that you should *NOT* sign any copyright
transfer agreement to a Journal that would prevent you
from submitting to PubMed Central, your papers resulting
from NIH-funded research.

The copyright that you transfer to Journals, is the one
that Journals will use for preventing your colleages from
gettinng access to your papers, and for banning the free
distribution of scientific information that was supported
with public funds.

For models of acceptable copyright transfer agreements,
please see: http://publicaccess.nih.gov/FAQ.htm#c2

               Open Access is here...
