Many thanks to all of you who have submitted
*reproducible* contributions to the Insight Journal.
You may have noticed that recently the template for submission to
the Insight Journal contains an extra hyperlink that points to the
location of the paper itself.
When you build your Paper (whether using the LaTeX or Word template)
you will see in the first page a link:
"Latest version available at the Insight Journal
[http://hdl.handle.net/1926/1338]"
"Distributed under Creative Commons Attribution License"
The purpose of these two links is to fill a void on the information
that readers of the paper where having access to.
Given that Insight Journal papers are available for free redistribution,
it was possible (and *encouraged* ) for readers to emails IJ paper as
attachments, or to post them in their own web sites. It is important
however, for the recipients of those papers to be aware of the License
that the copyright holder of the paper has granted. In this case, all
papers on the Insight Journal are distributed under a Creative Commons
Attribution License that allows you to copy, distribute and modify the
papers, as long as you give credit to the original authors.
In addition to this, given that authors are allowed (and *encouraged* )
to post new revisions of their papers, it was important for readers to
have an easy link that will point them to the latest version of the
paper. In this way, if a friend emailed you an Insight Journal paper
last week, the first thing that you may want to try is to see if there
is an updated/improved version already available at the Insight Journal
web site.
This new link however, requires an intermediate step on the part of
authors to be set properly.
When you look at the handle link:
http://hdl.handle.net/1926/1338
The number "1926" is the numerical identifier of the Insight Journal
as a whole. While the number "1338" is the specific identifier assigned
to a paper.
As an author, when you prepare your submission, you *MUST* replace the
number "1338" with the actual number that the Insight Journal have
assigned to your contribution.
You will know this number during the submission process, as soon as
you fill up the basic information about your paper.
The process, therefore requires that you do the following:
a) Prepare your contribution
(PDF paper, source code, data, parameters)
b) Go to the Insight Journal and fill up a submission entry
c) Grab the number assigned to your submission
d) Go to your paper and replace the number "1338" with the
one assigned to your paper.
In the Latex file you will find this number in the line:
\newcommand{\IJhandlerIDnumber}{1338}
Replace the "1338" number with the identifier assigned
to your paper.
e) Regenerate the PDF document.
at this point you should be able to check if clicking
on this link send you to the Insight Journal entry for
your paper.
f) Upload your paper, source code, data and parameters.
This may seem a bit convoluted, but it is certainly not harder
that programming with C++ templates :-)
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns,
and of course, if you have suggestion on how to improve this
process.
Regards,
Luis
