CALL FOR PAPERS MICCAI 2011 Workshop on
*Computational and Clinical Applications in Abdominal Imaging*

September 18, 2011
Westin Harbor Castle, Toronto, Canada

Website: http://abdominal-miccai.org/
========================================================================

*SCOPE AND TOPICS*

The workshop aims to bring together leading researchers and clinicians in
the fields of medical imaging, computational modeling, computer-aided
diagnosis, and interventional imaging to discuss emerging techniques and
clinical challenging in the field of abdominal imaging. The workshop will be
a forum for the dissemination of the state-of-the-art research and
technologies, the initiation of collaborations and the exploration of new
clinical applications for diagnosis, interventions, assessment and
monitoring in abdominal imaging.
Following and expanding the previous workshops in the same discipline, the
workshop will focus on the following three rapidly growing fields in
abdominal imaging this year:

   - Virtual colonoscopy and CAD
      - Detection of polyps in CT colonography
Electronic cleansing of the colon in CT colonography
CAD for reduced-laxative or laxative-free CT colonography
CAD for Crohn's diseases in CT/MR enterography
CAD for MR colonography, capsule endoscopy, and other emerging
      modalities
CAD for abdominal tumor/organ analysis in CT/MR, such as liver,
      kidney, bladder, pancreas, etc.
Visualization and navigation in CT colonography: distortion-free colon
      flattening, patch view
Registration methods in CT colonography: supine-prone, colonoscopy-CT
      registration
Clinical implications of CAD in CT colonography, cystography, and
      other abdominal images
      - Abdominal Intervention
      - Intra-operative navigation and tracking: tool tracking, organ
      tracking, and tumor tracking
Augmented reality techniques for intervention, haptic devices, 3D US
      reconstruction
Inter- and intra-modality registration for planning and intervention:
      US, CT, MRI, DWI, PET
Registration methods for pre- and post-operative data
      Visualization methods for operation planning
Segmentation methods for operation planning and intervention
Clinical applications in radio-frequency ablation, open surgery, and
      minimally invasive surgery
      - Computational anatomy
      - Abdominal multi-organ modeling and segmentation
      Abdominal atlases
Shape analysis and morphology in abdominal structures and organs
Identification of parameters and error analysis in complex
      computational models
Detection of anatomical and functional landmarks and their role in the
      optimization of analysis
Detection and analysis of difficult lesions in the abdomen
Dynamic, functional, physiologic, and anatomical abdominal imaging
Registration methods for abdominal intra- and inter-patient
      variability
Strategies for personalization models of the abdomen
Clinical applications of imaging and modeling techniques

*PAPER SUBMISSION*

Papers will be limited to eight pages following the MICCAI submission
guidelines. Prospective authors should refer to the Paper Submission section
on the workshop website for details on how to submit papers to be presented
at the workshop.
All submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 2 members of the program
committee. The selection of the papers will be based on the significance of
results, novelty, technical merit, relevance and clarity of presentation.
Papers will be presented in a day long single track workshop starting with
plenary sessions. A poster session will accommodate further discussion on
new ideas.
Accepted papers will be published as a post-proceedings volume in the
Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series after the workshop.

*WORKSHOP FORMAT*

Accepted papers will be presented in a day long single track workshop. The
final program will consist of invited speakers and original papers with time
allocated for discussions as well as a poster session. Electronic
proceedings will be arranged for all of the papers and posters presented at
the workshop.

*IMPORTANT DATES*

   - *June 15, 2011*: Paper submission due date
   - July 15, 2011: Notification of acceptance
   - August 15, 2011: Final camera-ready paper submission due date
