[Insight-users] Thin plate splines

There are also several JIRA tickets at issues.itk.org related to to this. There has been several people who recognize that there are some serious needs to refactor that section. Unfortunately, no one has had sufficient time/resources/motivation to complete this task.

Subject: [Insight-users] Thin plate splines
Hi List Users,
I know I've asked this many times but I haven't got a satisfactory answer yet. The thin plate splines implementation in ITK seems really confusing, atleast to me. I tried reading the paper referenced in the implementation but that paper is on Elastic Body Splines. I went through the txx files as well. Could somebody explain the TPS implementation to me? Why cannot the TPS be used as the transform in ICP and why does the TPS require the Amoeba optimizer specifically?
